To get the shares moving, large institutions are turning into activists and heading into bruising battles with management. Often, hedge funds are leading the charge, but increasingly, more staid pension and mutual funds are jumping in.
Call for easier investor access to hedge funds in Europe
The European Union’s $325bn hedge fund industry should be free to offer its services across different member states and face fewer obstacles when marketing its products to investors, according to a report released by the European Commission today.
China’s state-share reform enters final phase
More than 80 percent of Chinese firms listed domestically — a total of 1,092 — have completed or are in the process of state-shareholding reform as 35 more firms announced plans on Monday to float shares previously barred from trading on the stock markets.
Euronext and Milan bourse to continue “positive” talks
Euronext and Borsa Italiana will continue their “positive” talks after a meeting on Tuesday which sources said aimed to persuade the Milan market to join a $10 billion merger with NYSE Group Inc.
