Ira Gamm: International Coal Group, Inc.

CHARLESTON, W.Va., July 17, 2006 — International Coal Group, Inc. has appointed Ira Gamm as Vice President, Investor and Public Relations. In this newly created position, Gamm will be responsible for developing and executing ICG’s communications with the investment community and news media.

“We are pleased to add a seasoned communications executive to the ICG team — particularly one with relevant experience in the coal industry,” said Ben Hatfield, chief executive officer. “As we move forward with our growth strategy, Ira will play an important role in communicating our progress to our various constituents.”

Gamm comes to ICG with more than 10 years of investor relations experience. Most recently, he operated his own investor relations consulting firm, Gamm & Associates. He also has held investor relations positions with NACCO Industries, a holding company that owns North American Coal Corporation, and Figgie International. Gamm has extensive corporate communications and public relations experience with Figgie International, United Airlines and Walgreen Co.

Gamm received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and his juris doctor degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law, Dekalb.

ICG is a leading producer of coal in Northern and Central Appalachia and the Illinois Basin. The Company has 11 active mining complexes, of which 10 are located in Northern and Central Appalachia and one in Central Illinois. ICG’s mining operations and reserves are strategically located to serve utility, metallurgical and industrial customers throughout the Eastern United States.
