All companies have their ups and downs. The fact that Applebee’s IR department chooses to communicate openly with the investing public means that they have nothing to hide. I’d be more confident in their ability to turn things around than most firms. Time will tell but honesty and integrity usually pays off in the long-term.

Will: I agree with you that good ol’ fashioned straight talk earns you the benefit of the doubt in a tight situation. Or at least I’d like to think it does. I’m not so sure though that everyone sees it the same way. At what point is straight talk really just clever PR?

If Applebee’s, or any company for that matter, really had nothing to hide, they’d be doing stuff like the open interviews I wrote about last week. Now that’s transparent IR!
