AS PART of a continuing theme that many corporate websites are becoming increasingly irrelevant to investors due to poor management and a lack of a clear communication strategy, I offer two screenshots.
The first is from the events calendar page on XTO Energy Inc.’s (NYSE:XTO) investor relations website, which is hosted by Thomson Financial on a corporate-ir.net domain.
The second screenshot is of the calendar on XTO Energy’s Google Finance page.
Which site would you use?

|
| The events calendar page on XTO Energy’s investor relations website shows no upcoming events. |
And here’s the calendar from Google Finance. Take note of which event is happening today — May 15, 2007.

|
| So there are indeed events scheduled. And investors can add events to a Google calendar to get reminders. The fact that it’s the company’s Annual Meeting today and that’s not mentioned on the company’s own site is curious, to say the least. |
So what does this tell you about XTO Energy (IRWR Score: 23.08)? Is the IR department competent? Does the company have a strong commitment to corporate governance? Does the company keep its investors informed?
I don’t have any prior experience with them, so I have nothing else to judge them by except what I’ve experienced on their website.
Just like millions of other people.

IR calendars say more than you think
IRWebReport.com was founded by Dominic Jones in February 2001 to promote best practices for online investor relations communications. In July 2010, the site had more monthly visitors than IR Magazine and IR Alert combined, according to Compete. We would like to thank our readers for their continued support and interest.
