Yahoo! Finance homepage redesigned?

Update: Looks like someone at Yahoo! Finance flicked the switch by mistake, or was doing some early morning testing, because the new design was quickly removed after we wrote this post. The screenshot we took is actually of the “tour” that was provided via a link on the new homepage we saw.

THE Yahoo! Finance homepage has been redesigned with a look and content focus aimed at appealing to a broader audience with broader minds.

Picking up on growing interest in global investing by U.S. retail investors — witness E-Trade’s recent international stock trading initiatives — the new Yahoo! Finance homepage features a global market summary for Asia, Europe and the US.

There’s also a new interactive currency converter on the homepage. It looked to us like they were using some Ajax effects for these new tools.

And borrowing a bit from Google Finance’s homepage, Yahoo! Finance now has five new investing ideas modules, including unusual volume, most mentioned in the news, and industry winners and losers. Investors also have easier access to their portfolios on the homepage.

Inside pages remain the same for now.

These changes come a day after a report saying ComScore data show that AOL Finance has virtually caught Yahoo! Finance — and MSN Money has lost market share in the investment site space.
