Real IR magazine, R.I.P

AND then there was one. Last month, Real IR magazine ceased publishing after less than four years as Europe’s magazine for investor relations professionals.

The bright, high-quality publication launched by UK-based Caspian Publishing brought healthy competition to a market that has long been dominated by Cross Border Group’s IR Magazine.

Real IR Magazine has folded

In a letter to subscribers last month, Caspian said the magazine’s current subscriber numbers fell “well short of the levels required for the long-term growth targets” the publishing house sets for its titles. According the company’s website, Real IR had a circulation of 3,000. IR Magazine has around 14,000 subscribers.

For the past two years, Real IR partnered with the prestigious Thomson Extel Survey to present the Pan-European IR Excellence Awards.

Personally, I will miss the coverage that Real IR gave to technology and online communications best practices. Fortunately, the IR profession still has IR Magazine, which has increased its coverage of Web-related issues in recent months.

Still, it’s sad to see the IR profession lose such a high-quality publication as Real IR.
