SEC proposes rule to make XBRL mandatory
THE US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is proposing a rule for all companies to file their annual and quarterly reports in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) on a staged basis over the next three years.

SEC delays meeting on XBRL rule - Updated
Updated: SEC spokesman John Nester told Financial Week that “the meeting was postponed because the commission needed time to prepare and approve testimony for tomorrow’s Senate Banking Committee hearing, at which SEC chairman Christopher Cox is scheduled to testify on the role of credit rating agencies in the current liquidity crisis.” Original post follows.

Dissent on SEC panel over XBRL
A PRIVATE advisory committee of the US Securities and Exchange Commission this week voted to recommend a watered down implementation of mandatory XBRL, prompting one member to warn that the move could “invite a chaotic outcome” and delay the technology well into the “next decade.”
